How to obtain the motorcycle licence
From the moment you are 24 years old, you can directly apply for the full motorcycle licence. You do need to be in possession of a driving licence B, or a motorcycle theory certificate.
The motorcycle licence comprises two parts: first the AVB (vehicle control) and then AVD (traffic participation).
If you are 18 years old, you can take the exam for a motorcycle with a cylinder capacity up to 125 cc and 11 kW. This is the A1 category. You can even start taking motorcycle driving lessons from your 17th birthday. These lessons are the same as those for 24-year olds. Two years after getting the A1 motorcycle driving licence and once you’re at least 20 years old, you can take the A2 motorcycle driving licence. This is the category up to 35 kW. When you’re 22 years old, you can take the exam for the heaviest motorcycle category A (unlimited capacity / at least 50 kW).
